DECEMBER 27 – 30, 2012

In its inaugural season, the Marlins Ballpark will play host to the greatest international amateur baseball event in history.  From December 27th-30th, the $500 Million home of the Miami Marlins will also be home to the 7th Annual Power Showcase and All-World/All-American Baseball Classic. The Power Showcase will feature 130 of the world’s best players representing 19 countries, from Africa to Europe to all the Americas.  It’s the only opportunity for fans and MLB scouts alike to see the best international talent on domestic turf.At the heart of the Power Showcase is amateur baseball’s most prestigious Home Run Derby.  Former champions and award winners include Washington Nationals phenom Bryce Harper, who recorded the events first 500 foot plus home run as a 16 year-old in 2009 at Tropicana Field (St. Petersburg, FL).  Harper was followed more recently by Dan Vogelbach (2010) and Kyle Carter (2011) who slugged their ways to the title at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Harper’s 502 foot blast in 2009 has received millions of views, yet Minnesota Twins 1st rounder – Travis Harrison bested him by two feet (504) the very next year.  Again, the next year, Chicago Cubs 2nd round pick -Daniel Vogelbach set a new World Record reaching a distance of 508 ft.!

The Home Run Derby videos have become a staple for media outlets both on television and throughout the internet, furthering acclaim for the Power Showcase.  Videos from the event have also made their way into MLB draft rooms being viewed over 17 million times.

Since 2009, the grand-daughter of Babe Ruth, the greatest slugger of all-time, has become involved with Power Showcase as a goodwill ambassador.  Linda Ruth Tosetti’s involvement led to the creation of two awards; the “Colossus of Clout“, and the Spirit of Babe Ruth” to honor her legendary grandfather.

The Power Showcase is high on philanthropy, for every POWER SHOWCASE participant takes part in the “Home Runs that Help” initiative which partners players with severely ill children and raises money for their cause.  Using home runs as its vehicle, the Power Showcase has enriched and lengthened the lives of many beyond the outfield fence.

The 2012 Power Showcase and All-World/All-American Classic will feature daily pro-style workouts and combines for the benefit of major league scouts and fans.  After the completion of the first two days of workouts and the preliminary round of the home run derby, the last day will feature the crowning of the 2012 POWER SHOWCASE World Champion and three games pitting the best amateur baseball players in the world.  1) All-American Game (top 40) 2013 graduates in an East vs. West match-up.  2) All-World Classic (top 20) underclassmen born in the united states against the most prolific (20) international prospects from around the world.  3) Babe Ruth Classic.

What began humbly in 2004 as a fundraiser for a south Florida high school has grown into a mammoth international event with visibility throughout the baseball world.  With the brand new Marlins Ballpark serving as a backdrop, the 2012 version of the Power Showcase promises to be the biggest and best yet.  The future of baseball will be in Miami this December.
