“Brendon Barr is a Senior at Roff High school in Roff, Oklahoma. Brendon is a phenomenal young man on and off the field. On the field Brendon has tremendous potential with awesome bat speed and a strong arm. He has been catching for a little over one year and is still learning the position. However, he has the frame and mind needed to master the position. His qualities that stand out on the field are his work ethic, coach-ability and desire to be the best. Off the field, Brendon is maybe equally as impressive. He is one of the most respectful young men I have ever been around. His character and integrity stand out among his peers. Brendon hit 14 home runs on a team that set the national high school single season home run record with 131 in the spring of 2010. We are proud to have Brendon represent our program at this showcase. ”

I am honored to have the opportunity to recommend Brendon Barr for the International Power Showcase. I, Steve Dean, coached and taught in the Ada School system the past 15 years, serving as head football coach and Assistant baseball coach. I have had the pleasure of watching Brendon grow up in our church, having been in Sunday school class with his parents. He attended the Ada School System for 3 years, before moving to Roff to finish his career. He is a very well rounded student and was truly an asset to our school.

Brendon comes with high recommendation because of his character, work ethic, and God given ability in baseball. Having been a 5th round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins and playing collegiate baseball at the University of Oklahoma myself, I feel as though I have a strong background in baseball and know good players when I see them. Brendon is one of those players. He accepts responsibility and then becomes dedicated to fulfilling its requirements.

He started on the Ada High School baseball team as a freshman. Not only did he play shortstop and second base, he pitched some as well. All of this on a team in the state’s second largest class, 5A. He helped lead Roff to baseball state championships in the fall of 2008, spring of 2009, and a basketball state championship in the winter of 2009. In addition to all of his school activities, he is very involved in our church and the youth leagues. He referees youth league flag football games and Upward basketball games. Brendan also has served as a counselor at the Cornerstone Kids Ranch and Camp Dewasi, both faith based camps.

There is no question that Brendon has had a very rewarding high school career so far. However, his eyes have continually been focused toward the future. Throughout the years I have known him, he has been determined and dedicated to preparing himself academically and athletically for college, playing on traveling baseball teams that pitted him against only the best competition. During this time, he has maintained a 3.6 grade point average.

The most important characteristic Brendon possesses that I have yet to mention is his determination. There are numerous students with good grade point averages, high ACT scores, organizational involvement, but few possess all of those things in addition to the determination to succeed. Brendon realizes that he has been blessed with many outstanding abilities and I have had the pleasure of watching him throughout his young adult life become a mature responsible student and citizen. Brendan is an outstanding candidate for National Power Showcase and I give him the highest of recommendations.- Steve Dean Ada H.S (Former HS)
