I’ve watched Chevas Numata through all these years playing baseball since he was 10 years old. It was very rewarding being able to coach Chevas the last two seasons and I would like to say that you can’t find a nicer person, on or off the field. On the field Chevas takes practice very seriously and spends a lot of extra hours working after practice to better himself. His mannerism on the field is a great inspiration to his fellow teammates. He gets on himself if he doesn’t do well. He is constantly trying to do his best on the field, whether it be at 3rd Base, 1st Base or pitching. He handles all three positions without any problems or excuses. During our 2010 baseball season, Chevas played in 30 games, with a batting average of .325, 24 runs scored, 27 hits, 12 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, 33 runs batted in, and struck out 11 times with 10 walks. Off the field Chevas is much like a big smiling teddy bear that people just find easy to talk to him and just trust him in whatever he does. He handles himself well among others and respects all his elders, at all times. If he sees somebody that needs a helping hand, Chevas will volunteer his services to help that person. It’s amazing how well he gets along with his fellow teammates off the field. Chevas is a happy go lucky fellow and is always smiling but can be a very serious player on the baseball field. Anyone who coaches Chevas will have a great experience and opportunity to see how hard he works, his dedication to baseball and the ability to learn and apply. I know he will be one of the top players in the state in his Senior year at Pearl City High School, and hopefully get a scholarship to a college or even get drafted in the Major Leagues. – Gary Nakamotoa, Pearl City High School JV Baseball Head Coach from 1993 to 2007 and Varsity Baseball Coach from 2008 to 2010
