“Home Runs that Help” HUMANITARIAN AWARD WINNER

Anthony has partnered with Xavier Boyce for Home Runs that Help

Xavier has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is in a wheel chair. He is a smart, friendly, and active young man. He is a 2016 Graduate of Ripley High School and plans on attending college this fall. He is the son of Cathy and Victor and brother to Remy and Broedy. Over the years he and his family have spent enormous amounts of time helping the school and youth teams in our area. Xavier was an aspiring baseball player before this disease appealed.
My goal is to raise enough money to help pay off the new wheelchair that Xavier has purchased and any other upcoming or past medical bills.

On the field, Anthony Jarvis is a true “throwback” type of player. His heart, hustle, and desire to win are second to none. His helmet and bat will be covered in pine tar, pants will have holes in them, and jersey stained from the passion he has to succeed on the field. When Anthony walks to the plate, he has one intention…destroy the baseball. Anthony has a ton of raw power and has the ability to hit the ball out of all parts of the field. He doesn’t care about individual stats, he cares about his team and how hard they play to get the job done. In his words, “the only stat that matters is if our number is bigger than their number when the last out is made in the 7th inning.” He has the respect of every team we play in WV. He was walked 40 times in 2016 (6 Intentionally and 2 of those with a runner at 1st base) with a .400 hitter in front of and behind him and a .570 hitter 2 spots in front of him.

Off of the field, Anthony Jarvis is an outstanding young man. When he was asked to participate in your event and found out he would be representing not only the State of WV, but also get the opportunity to represent someone not as fortunate as him, he jumped at the chance. His decision to represent Xavier Boyce was an easy one for him. Xavier’s brother is a teammate of Anthony’s and they have known each other for many years. They often hang out with each other and go places together. Anthony is not raising money for just anyone, he is raising money for a friend and to me, that speaks volumes about Anthony Jarvis’s character. In his spare time, you can find Anthony helping the youth of the Ripley area. Whether it be helping coach a baseball camp, participate in charity softball games, helping coaching youth football, or umpiring Little League games. He can have an intimidating effect on opposing teams, but once you get to know Anthony, he has a HUGE heart and is a very kind young man.

It has been nothing but a pleasure to coach Anthony Jarvis and see him develop as a player, but also, into a great young man.
