Nic Frink was crowned the 12U Rookies Home Run Derby Champion on Sunday afternoon at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. The Maine native, who advanced to the finals as the wild card, hit an astounding 21 home runs in the final round to claim the title. “Hitting first was kind of tough,” Frink said on what was going through his mind entering the finals. “You never know what they’re going to do behind you. I just tried to hit my best.” Frink strung together consecutive home run streaks of three, three, five, two, three and three before finally recording 15 outs. His five straight stood as the longest among the four 12U finalists in the finals round. Frink was awarded for the furthest home run in the finals (377’) and most overall home runs (31). |

He also took home the award for most consecutive home runs with seven straight in the preliminary round. Mitchell hit third and, despite topping Ochoa’s eight, fell short of the 21 by Frink. Hernandez completed the round by tying Ochoa’s eight blasts. He switched bats with three outs remaining, proving to be a difference, as he hit four straight before recording another out. Hernandez was given the award for most preliminary round home runs (18). |
