As Little League President in the Town of Scarborough Maine, and having coached LL and AAU  baseball in our region of Northern New England, I have observed many fine baseball youth players.  A few I have had the luxury of coaching, or being associated with, a few that have done very well with the College placement in baseball. However, none though were as talented as this player you hopefully will consider.  He has devastated every written and unwritten record for hitting, be it power, hits, average, and even walks, in our Little League during his tenure which was completed this year.

Nic, in a word is a beast at the plate. He is long ahead of many of his top echelon peers in our area, in every aspect of the game. He is not only strong and powerful, but has great baseball mind, and knowledge in hitting, playing defense, running the bases, and pitching. He is a complete threat to do the amazing at any point in a game. We don’t realize what insane mental aptitude this takes to be recognized by so many, to carry such a load of expectation, and then execute with the most acute precision and power. Nic does this on a regular basis.  Nic knows where he can hit, where the ball is going, and how to maximize his position and ability, in the calmest of regular season scrimmages, or in the tempest of a playoff or championship game, his superior play and consistency is tremendous.

Nic’s swing is just short of perfection by execution of compact precision applying maximum energy, and to exert that force to no other location but the sweet spot on the bat to the ball. His ability to stay composed, to coil and turn with very little extremity movement beyond the hands, hips and feet is unimaginable for a player of 13 years old.  His fluidic swing and bat speed are like lightning, and yet is so very controlled, and it is surely unfathomable that as he grows more, how much faster his ball exit speed off the bat might register. Furthermore is Nic’s ability to recognize ball movement, at the plate or in the field. His ability to hit locations is done with equally devastation to a pitchers dismay at the plate, but under the radar, he is equally quick in the field to read and anticipate. Again this is a talent that is many years ahead of most.

Nic, has had to adjust to his superior role as the target player, in a manner which one can only assume will prepare him for the moments of highest competition. Nic is revered as a local star by all in our league and region, and at such a young age, he stays stable, confident, and consistently executes.  This year he faced the adversity of being intentionally walked in key points of the game, and did not show frustration or dismay, and was admirable in his acceptance. His focus to adapt, and motivate on the disappointment and equal respect, was a powerful experience and milestone. Not surprising for Nic , this was done with a professionalism.  More importantly he has embraced his presence to uplift fellow player’s abilities, and knowledge, and be an ambassador for his team.  He is a most positive influence to have on a team, as he leads by example, and genuinely cares for his team and mates and strives to assist in their pursuit to be better.

He glows with enthusiasm, works hard at the details. He separates himself from his peers by his in-game performances, and all the while, has what I appreciate best, which is he is continually pushing his limits when away from the game, training, preparing for the highest competition, and building on his base of excellent habits. Prior to this year he was referred to as “The Hulk “ by reference to one of his favorite Marvel heroes, but this year throughout his reign of baseball supremacy, he is just known now simply as the “Beast”. For many of us this has been a wonderful period to see him grow, be second to none, and equally been our privilege and honor to have him represent so well, in our community and the game itself.

Finally, now that he has left our friendly Little League confines, I can breathe a sigh of relief and not worry about him potentially causing serious injury to less able players, and he will no longer run up the league’s bills for lost home run balls.  His ability gap did seriously raise such concerns, but we accepted the tradeoff of lost balls into our wetlands, over opponent injury. He is an enjoyment to watch, know, and equally learn from as he has so much fun in baseball.

Nic is more than deserving of this honor to participate in your Showcase event, and I know you will not be disappointed with his dedication, baseball talents, instinctive abilities, and tenacious power. I am thrilled to offer my reference for his opportunity to step to the next level of highest competition.
