Assistant Coach – World

My whole family was into baseball, that’s how I got into the game of baseball.I was blessed to have Uncle’s and Nephew’s that played the game as well, because they were the ones that took me to the field. At the age of four I started playing in a team, Marchena Hardware. I was coached by the most popular coach in Curacao, Shon Ki Nicasia. Everyone knows him on the island. I played in the “Vruminga League”(that’s how we call it there) and in the Little League before we moved to the Netherlands.

In 1986, we moved to the Netherlands and I was fortunate to be able to keep playing baseball.

At the age of 14, I played my first game for the National Team of Holland, Junior Team.

Pretty soon followed the Senior Team and at the age of 18 I played my first game for the National Team. It went fast, but I was really into being a good player just like Ozzy Smith.

During a tournament in Haarlem in 1992, a scout came to me and ask if I wanted to play professional baseball. His name was Tim Schmidt, for the Florida Marlins. I signed a contract and went to USA in 1993.

Professional career

The Florida Marlins was my employer from 1993-1997. I played in the minors for them and in the Major league. After the world series, Al Leither and I got traded the New York Mets for the season of 1998. In 1999 I became a free agent and sign with the Reds. The year after that I sign with San Diego (2000). In 2001 I started the season in the Cleveland organization and that year was my last in professional baseball.

National Team

In the year 2000 I went to the Olympics (Sydney)with the Dutch National Team. We were the first team that beat Cuba in the Olympics, 2-1. That has never been done before.

2004 in Athens was my second time in the Olympics.

Coaching career:

My coaching career started in 2009, I coached the second division team of HCAW in Bussum. This I did for 2 seasons (2009-2010), till I got another job with Kinheim, from Haarlem.

Kinheim is a first division club, where I coached in 2011 and 2012. In 2012 Kinheim went on to win the championship.

At this moment I am going to coach a team in Oosterhout, Netherlands, where they have the ambition to reach the highest level in 2014.

I also function as a personal trainer and will visit countries, especially in Europe to give clinics.

My last visit was in Lithuania, where I gave sessions for a week.

In the Netherlands I help some guys out through the whole year
