Coach Alejandro Machado

 

Born in Caracas Venezuela, I began to play baseball when I was 4 years old.

I signed with the Atlanta Braves as a non-drafted free agent, July 2nd 1998, signed by scout Rolando Petit.

I played 12 seasons as a professional baseball player as a shortstop and second baseman and later in my career I played third baseman and outfield.

  • 1999 Led the Gulf Coast League with 45 runs and 223 at bats, while finishing third with 62 hits and 56 games played in my first pro season.
  • 2000 Led the rookie level Appalachian League with a 477 on base percentage for the Braves Danville squad…also ranked first with 53 walks, second with a 341 average and 74 hits and third 30 steals…was named to the Appalachian League All-Star Team as Second Baseman.
  • 2002: Named the utility infielder on the Carolina League All-Star team after posting the league’s third best average 314 and stealing 20 bases for the Royals single A Wilmington Club.
  • 2004: Hit a combine 306 with 30 steals in a career high 139 games with the Expos single A Brevard County an  AA Harrisburg Club and tied for the organization lead with 30 steals while ranking fourth in batting.
  • 2005: Acquired by Boston Red Sox from the Nationals at the start of spring training –  batted 300 with three homers, 43 RBI and 21 steals for Pawtucket before a September 1 promotion to Boston for Major League debut…was named the organizations minor league base runner of the year was 11th in the international league in batting.
  • 2006: Batted 260 with 21 steals in 116 games with Pawtucket of AAA international league ranked… fifth in Boston organization in stolen bases.
  • 2007: Taken as a rule 5 draft by the Minnesota Twins. Missed entire season recovering from surgery to repair torn labrum in right shoulder.
  • 2008: batted 341… Season high 21 games hit streak.
  • 2010: I played with Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves as my last year as a baseball player.

In Venezuela I played with Leones del Caracas and Tiburones de la Guaira.


Education: 
Graduate from high school in Caracas Venezuela at Colegio Santo Tomas de Villanueva.


Family: 
Married in 2007 to Brigida Erminy. We have a precious baby girl, Brianna.
