Spencer Uribe. Where do I begin? This young man is what most all coaches hope to see walk through their door at the beginning of each season. These words come to mind when I think of Spencer: Respect, Hard Work, Dedication, Discipline, Leadership, and Trust.

I have coached Spencer in Jr High football, basketball, and track over the last two years. He was one of the hardest working athletes that I’ve encountered in my career. Spencer showed up every day with a positive attitude and the drive to work hard and improve. He had confidence that was not mistaken for ego. He never backed down from a challenge. Instead, he dug in and faced each one he came across. Not many players that faltered during a practice or game went without hearing words of encouragement from him. He was a leader. He respected others as well as himself. I could always trust him to do the job he was asked to do.

Spencer was a two way starter in football. He worked his way into the starting post position in basketball even though his first season on the hardwood was his 7th grade year. He won district in throwing both shot put and discus his 8th grade year.

Off the field, he was a great student and leader in the classroom and hallways of this campus. Many followed his lead in doing the right thing…which in today’s time can be a difficult task among your peers. Spencer was known to help those that needed it and never expected anything in return. He was a young man of integrity.  To go with his other success and accolades, he earned the position as the President of the National Junior Honor Society.

Like I said earlier, Spencer is the kind of young man that a coach loves to see coming. The Power Showcase did a great job in finding such an individual to be a part of this type of event. I believe he will do nothing but succeed in whatever he puts his mind to.  It’s just the way he is.

Spencer Uribe is a right handed first baseman from Silsbee, TX. He has gap to gap power, and hits for average. He is also an exceptional pitcher that throws 3 pitches for strikes. Spencer is a great team player that does what’s asked of him. He has a great work ethic off the field, and is always working on his own to become a better player. Spencer’s desire to be great is what makes him the competitor that he is.

Not only is Spencer a great baseball player, but he excels in football and basketball also, as well as in the classroom. He takes all honor classes maintaining an A average, on top of his extra curriculum activities. He is an all-around great kid, that I enjoy coaching. Spencer has a bright future ahead of him, and I have no doubt he will succeed in whatever it is that life throws his way. – Jeff Moye
