I have coached Evan Sutton over the course of two summer leagues.  Evan played his 8th and 9th grade for me and Coach Ken and over the time of a couple seasons.  His efforts on and off the diamond have obviously paid dividends as his skills have improved in such a short time.  Evan is a natural southpaw and has shown patience and ability to hit all fields, with good line drive pop and finding the hole where the defense shifts.  He has improved every year with his hand speed and coordination and this will continue as he continues to mature into his body.

On the mound, Evan has consistently gained velocity with his pitches as well as incorporating movement with his 2 seam and 4 seam fastball.  His off-speed pitches, including a changeup and slider, have gained more depth and deception as his mechanics have matured.  As a lefty, he usually would play first on the infield and also displayed a natural instinct when put into the outfield.  His improved ability to dig throws at first have been markedly improved over the course of the past couple seasons.

Evan currently is in his sophomore year in high school.  He has expanded his knowledge of baseball to also help a team of 7 year olds learn the basic fundamentals of the game during his off time.  He was also first chair in band for 3 years playing the drums.  I look forward to see how he displays his skills on hand with the upcoming events in Florida and Texas.  His knowledge base and understanding of the game should continue to mold him as an already outstanding player.

Evan has partnered with Layna Talbott for Home Runs that Help

Evan hopes to raise money for a vehicle and to help with Layna’s medical and tuition costs.

Layna (age 6) suffered a brain injury due to complications at birth which resulted in Cerebral Palsy and Global Ischemia.  Because of the brain injury, Layna has a multitude of disabilities.  This includes the need for a feeding tube, inability to talk, visual impairment, and inability to walk or care for herself.  Essentially, Layna is like a newborn that is totally dependent on others for all her needs.  Despite this, Layna loves to be with people and smiles all the time.  She is a beautiful girl who is always happy and is especially fond of her Grandpa.  Layna attends the Children’s Center for Visual Impairment where she gets daily therapies and visual tech support.  Through this program, Layna has learned how to communicate using switches and buttons. Unfortunately, Layna’s family has to pay for her tuition out of pocket and it is a large sum of money.

Layna lives with her grandparents and her mother.  Currently they only have one vehicle and it is not equipped for special needs. The family is desperately in need of a vehicle with a lift.  It is very difficult for the family to transport Layna and a vehicle with a lift would help them tremendously!  Evan hopes to raise money for a vehicle and to help with Layna’s medical and tuition costs.

Thank you to everyone for your donations and your time.
