I have had the opportunity to coach Hunter for the past seven seasons.  On the field, he possesses all the tools to make him a great baseball player!  Definitely, he can play anywhere and WANTS to play everywhere!  He has been placed in some unique situations, and I truly believe he doesn’t care where he plays.  This is what makes him a great teammate.  People tend to gravitate to him.  While to some he seems quiet and emotionless, he draws people to him.  Effortless leadership qualities.  Offensively, he can bat for power and average.  He adjusts his plate attitude, depending on the game situation.  Historically, he has had one of the top 2-3 batting averages over the years, and, although we didn’t keep slugging percentages, I would guess he would be near the top in that too.

Off field, Hunter is an honor-roll student, plays basketball and has played football and soccer, but enjoys tennis and golf as well.  Any game, any time!  Hunter never hesitates when it comes to helping people.  He is a very caring person.  I believe Hunter will be a success at whatever he puts his mind to.  Good Luck Bear!

Hunter has partnered with Jack for Home Runs that Help.

“IF YOU DON’T FIGHT CANCER, YOU DON’T KNOW JACK”…….I KNOW JACK!

At five years of age, Jack was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer-disseminated primitive neural ectodermal tumor.   There was no protocol to treat his cancer and no survivors of his cancer.  Jack then began his long journey to recovery.   It wasn’t easy, but Jack fought hard and beat cancer!  Cancer affected Jack’s entire family and they depended upon many people to help them at that time.  Even though Jack is in remission, Jack’s family believes in continuing the fight against cancer.  By telling Jack’s story, fundraising and lobbying for more cancer funding it allows us to spin cancer from a negative in their family to a positive.  Jacks family understands that cancer affects the entire family and that it takes a community to beat cancer.Jack loves baseball, soccer and basketball.  Jack is now a freshman in school (Just like Hunter) and when first meeting Jack, he will want to show you his muscles…and muscles they are….and does Jack ever have some great dance moves!   Our family had the opportunity to meet Jack and his family recently.  The friendship we have gained with Jack and his family will be a life-long friendship….the laughs we shared, the jokes Jack told, and the fun Hunter and Jack had playing catch and hitting baseballs was awesome!

Hunter’s dad did some volunteer work on a home that was called “The House That Jack Built” to provide money to do something with the Ronald McDonald House and without having one local, it was hard to do.  So when UnityPoint came up with the idea of the Ronald McDonald House coming to reality in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, it just happened to be when the builders came up with the idea to build this house and donate the proceeds to something locally.  That’s exactly what happened….The profits went directly to Unity Point Health-St. Luke’s Hospital for a Ronald McDonald House Family Room which has recently opened and has started helping its first family and is ready to leave a legacy……”The Jack House”!

Jack has really beat the odds and serves as an inspiration to all of us!  Continue your fight to LIVESTRONG Jack!   Now…..what will you do?
