I’ve had the honor of coaching German for the past 3 years, both during the season and with off-season work.  German is a special young man, who shows a great work ethic, a drive to improve as well as tremendous respect for both the game and the kids he plays with and against.  He is always talking baseball and anytime I have shown him corrections or suggested improvements, he eats it up like a sponge and takes the coaching as a way to improve himself and not as a criticism.  This attitude shows that he is a true leader, both on and off the field.  German has a bright future not only in baseball, but in life, and I am proud to say that I have coached him along the way and look forward to watching him grow into a man.

German is the prototypical middle of the order power bat who thrives in pressure situations.  Look up his DNA and you will find the clutch gene, as he helped his Township win its first ever District Title with a 3 run double in the bottom of the 6th and return to the championship this year with a game winning Grand Slam.  German embodies America’s Passion for baseball truly loving the game, and his teammates.

 nj-BELTRAN-HRH2-GABRIEL-PROFILE

German has partnered with Gabriel for Home Runs that Help.

Gabriel Jordan Roig, we call him Gabe for short, was born on December 30, 2008 with difficulty breathing and a very abnormally large head with webbed hands.  He was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where he spent 7 days in PICU.  We learned his diagnosis of Apert Syndrome. A genetic syndrome caused by a chromosome that didn’t mutate and caused his hands to not completely develop in the wound.  He has had several surgeries that have included unwebbing his hands, straightening his right thumb & placing ear tubes twice.  He’s currently the only one in history with Apert Syndrome that has not had any cranial surgeries and he’s almost 7-years old, all by the Power of GOD.  Most kids with Apert Syndrome have had their first cranial surgery by the age of 6-months.

He currently has asthma, EE (Eosinophilic Esophagitus) – inflammation of the esophagus caused by food allergies, restricted airway due to the structure of his facial & cranial area, cardiovascular issue due to an abnormal aortic valve, a leak and a membrane that is restricting the blood flow & he was recently diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder).  He currently is followed by more than 10 different specialist providers at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Alfred Dupont Children’s Hospital: Pulmonary, Cardiology, Plastic Surgery, Craniofacial Clinic, Ophthalmology, Endocrinology, ENT, Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Medicine & Rehab, Orthopedics, Immunology, Allergy & EE Clinic.

In spite of all his health issues, Gabe is in 1st grade, he’s thriving and well-liked.  He’s not bullied by the differences in his appearance (his head is still abnormally large, he has a speech impairment, his left hand only has 3 fingers and a thumb). Through it all, Gabe gives us the strength & encouragement to continue to fight.  He’s such a happy little boy with so much personality, sense of humor & character.  He will make you laugh in a minute.  He encourages everyone that knows his story to never give up in spite of all circumstances.  We thank GOD that he chose us to be his earthly parents.  It hasn’t been an easy 7 years, but it has definitely been the most rewarding, surprising and full of miracles time of our lives.

German has partnered with Christina for Home Runs that Help.

I am so proud to partner with my mom my best friend. Her name is Christina and she suffers from heart disease. At the age of 28 my mother suffered a severe heart attack while she was 39 weeks pregnant with my little sister Nicole. It was a sad and unfortunate event that changed our lives forever. Her left ventricle pumps at a 45% rate which makes her tired all the time. Anything less than 40% would require her to have a pacemaker. Just recently we were informed that due to this complication she has developed a clot and has now added Coumadin to the list of medication she takes daily.

My mother’s life is definitely a constant struggle but at the end of it she always manages to pull it all together. She is an amazing person, the strongest lady I have ever known. And I love her with ALL MY HEART!!!!!!!
