This is my first year in the Virginia Stars organization. The first person I met on my team was Cameron. As I sat in the dugout preparing my practice plan, he showed up about an hour early ready to start. He walked right up to me and introduced himself. As we shook hands, I thought to myself “wow, an hour early? He’s mature, punctual, and ready to play, I can work with that.” Cameron is 6 feet 4 inches and I’d be lying if I said that didn’t stand out on my first impression. But having said that, it only took me till the end of that first practice, when he shook my hand and thanked me for practice, to realize his heart and his love for the game was bigger than him.Cameron pitches, plays 1st, and hits 3rd in the lineup. He does all of these things at an elite level. The biggest adjustment that he has made during this season is really adjusting to hitting the off speed pitch which opposing pitchers like to throw him. He is currently leading the team in batting average, hits, extra-base hits, and RBI’s. As a pitcher, he has outstanding control and feel on the mound. The velocity is there, and he has learned to execute pitches at specific times to make hitters uncomfortable. This season, he has developed a cutter that has really improved his pitching performances. Fielding is where I have noticed the biggest improvement in his game. He has developed a really strong glove at first base. He uses his frame to stop tough hops and makes a lot of tough, foul ball catches look easy. I know he works on his skills at home because, though I’d like to take credit for the speed of improvement, he is improving every time he plays practice and games. His determination and development will keep moving him forward in baseball, in school, and in life.

Even though, I coach Cameron in baseball, I am more excited to hear about what and how he does in school, than what he does on the field. Cameron is a part of the National Junior Honor Society at Parkside Middle School. I know that it is hard for a thirteen-year-old to manage distractions in school, but the way he manages his time between baseball and his outstanding grades is a testament of his true character. When I need something done, he is the first to help. Not only is he great baseball player, he is just wonderful person. I truly feel blessed to have someone like Cameron on my team.

Cameron has partnered with INOVA Children’s Hospital for Home Runs that HelpVA-MOZINGO-MORALES-HRH-HOSPITAL-PROFILE

Cameron has teamed up with Kirstin McArthur, Development Officer of INOVA Children’s Hospital located in Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. In Cameron’s life, he has visited many family members and friends at the Fairfax Hospital including the early problematic birth of his little sister Cassiella and the unbearable death of his Granddad Rick that lost his battle against Lymphoma Cancer. When Cameron contacted Kirstin to be partnered up with a patient, he was told that that wasn’t allowed because of privacy laws. Kirstin told him that they were raising money to build a new and improved Children’s Hospital. He thought that was a great idea and loved the fact that he could help all the different kids regardless of their illness or disability. In this area, the location of the hospital is wonderful and has the best doctors in Northern Virginia. Cameron hopes to raise money to contribute to the new building and all of the equipment that will help the children and their families to be better taking care of.
