Josh has partnered with NyKee Cabiness  for Home Runs that Help

Nine year old NyKee Cabiness is currently undergoing a second round of treatments to fight leukemia at Wake Forest Baptist Health Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem NC.  NyKee was originally diagnosed in 2010 while seeking treatment at the emergency room for something minor.  During that visit, NyKee had a seizure, needed to be revived, and lost some of his eyesight as a result.

Once Brenner’s Children’s Hospital diagnosed his leukemia, he began successful treatment for the leukemia and was released in August of 2013 in remission.

After discovering some unexplained swelling in his midsection in June of 2014, NyKee ended up back at Brenner’s where they discovered his leukemia had returned.  As of now, November 2015, he is more than halfway through his expected 2 years of treatment and is currently in his “maintenance” phase.  This is treatment to try to insure it does not return.

When we met NyKee and his family, we were cautioned he had taken some medication and may not feel well.  We would never have known!!  We were greeted with the biggest smile and welcoming energetic spirit!  He and Josh share their love of sports and the outdoors, and discovered they both pull for the same football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With this being a part of his family’s life for 5+ years, it has taken its toll on him and his family.  As NyKee continues to get better, his mother Pamela now suffers from ailments resulting from the stress on her and the entire family.  Because of this and the fact that NyKee loves to build things, he hopes to one day invent a machine to help cure people.  A child thinking of others during his own battle.

Our hope is that we can help make their days a bit brighter and hopeful for what the future brings for them.  We are thankful for the new friendships being born between our families.  NyKee lives with his biggest supporters, his father and mother, Ivan and Pamela Cabiness, and his 17 year old sister, NaKiyah, in Martinsville, VA.
