CA-DELANEY-BAT3-PROFILE CA-DELANEY-BAT1-PROFILE

I have known Jake Delaney and have been his private batting instructor since he picked up a bat 3 ½ years ago for the first time at nine (9) years old, when his family moved back to Lafayette from Hawaii. Jake was an average size nine (9) year old; however, unusually different for the reason that for a kid who hadn’t played any organized baseball in Hawaii, he was extremely confident that he could learn to hit a baseball.

Fast forward to present day… Today Jake has grown to be a 5’10” mature young man. He came to me on a regular basis for the past 3 1/2 years improving rapidly.  In my 48 years of baseball coaching, I have never seen anyone improve at such a rapid rate. He has developed a beautiful and powerful swing that has impressed everyone who has had an opportunity to watch him play. I know he also has a strong arm and runs well. He is coordinated and can play many positions competently.  Jake plays the game with a lot of heart and emotion. During the recent little league season he was a standout and a leader that supported and encouraged his teammates.

It is now well known in the Lamorinda community where I have lived for forty (40) years and coached youth baseball that Jake Delaney is possibly the best hitter ever at this stage of his development.

I played high school, college and a summer season with the Cincinnati Reds rookie league.  I have coached at the high school and college levels.  With that said I feel qualified to rate and give my opinion on players that I have coached. Several players I have coached are or have played at the Major League level. I can’t and won’t take credit for that; however, Jake is definitely on the right track. If he continues his development and works hard it is anybody’s guess as to where and how far this game will take him.

DISABLED SPORTS USA FAR WEST
REHABILITATION THROUGH SPORTS SINCE 1967

Disabled Sports USA Far West leads the way in adaptive sports and recreation for people with disabilities. With over 40 years’ experience, our trained staff and volunteers guide you in discovering life without limits.

Disabled Sports has continued its rehabilitation orientation and remains dedicated to the belief that sports are a vital part of the process in which disabled individuals gain self-confidence, mobility, and greater independence. Our programs promote education, socialization and employment. They help turn tragedy into triumph by instilling in participants the knowledge that it’s not their disabilities, but their abilities that count.

Adam has been in Jake’s class since the 4th grade and is currently in 8th grade at Stanley Middle School.

The organization we will be raising money for is Disabled Sports Far West

Disabled Sports Far West is a great recipient.  Adam and his family go snow skiing with them a few times a year at Alpine Meadows.  Everyone in the program has been great, Adam loves it and they enable the entire family to ski all together.   Because of donations, when Adam skis there it is about $40 per half day which includes 2 private instructors, equipment and lift ticket.
