 WATCH RYAN’S HIGHLIGHT VIDEO

Ryan Popp has been an absolute pleasure to coach over the past four years.  His love for the game is evident through his dedicated daily approach.  Ryan is one of the first guys to the ballpark and the last guy to leave.  He has held down first base since day- one on campus.  He has also become a starter in our rotation that has six committed college players, and even more impressive he is the number 2 starter in our rotation.  He can throw three pitches for strikes and lives between 86-89mph.  As if that weren’t enough, Ryan has hit third through sixth for us over the past three seasons.  He has the power to change the game with every swing.  Most opposing teams pitch around him because of his power to all fields.

Ryan has been a leader in every sense of the word at the Brunswick School.  He has been a member of the football and basketball programs while also participating in community service at Brunswick.  Yet, the most impressive attribute that Ryan possesses is his respect for family, friends, and teammates.  Ryan will always look adults in the eye while shaking their hand, do whatever his coaches or teachers ask of him, and he takes the time to appreciate what his teammates bring to the table.  He is a true gentleman; a young man who places the value of the team before himself.

Ryan has partnered with Jackson Moore for Home Runs that Help

Jackson and his sister both were born on the 19th of the month so that is both of their ‘lucky numbers’ and his uniform number.  Jackson started playing T-ball at the age of 4 and at 7 decided that he wanted to try to catch which he handled well.  He was chosen for the All Stars team at age 8 and was asked that summer to start playing for a local travel ball team out of Hampstead, NC called Heat.  He started pitching that season.

In February of 2015, Jackson was admitted to the hospital with a blood sugar of 496.  He spent 2 days in the Pediatric ICU unit at New Hanover Region Medical Center and 2 more days in the hospital.  He will be insulin dependent for the rest of his life.  JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) made the lifestyle change that faced us much easier.  Jackson will attend Topsail Elementary School.  In the spring Jackson, along with his coaches plan on putting on a ball tournament to raise money and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes.  Symptoms are often masked where people do not catch the diagnosis.

My mom brought Jackson’s condition to my attention, and Jackson is the son of one of my mom’s best high school friends.
