Jeff combines his tremendous talent with a tremendous work ethic.  He has dedicated himself to being the best player and student that he can be.  When he’s not putting in extra time on his studies, he’s usually getting extra swings in the cage.  He has become a leader by example for our team in how he goes about his business and how he treats his teammates.Jeff has a really special set of baseball skills.  He combines size and strength with quickness of both hands and feet.  He has power and the ability to drive the ball to all fields.  He leads our returning players in every meaningful offensive category including homers, RBI, and OPS.  He is an excellent third baseman with quick, soft hands and an accurate arm.  Jeff’s skill set and work ethic have allowed him to become one of the best all-around players in Minnesota in the 2016 class.

Jeff has partnered with Grant Albin for Home Runs that Help

Please  Click here to Help Grant in his battle against Leukemia

I have partnered with a young Leukemia survivor, 12 year old Grant Albin.  He was first diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia when he was 7.  It’s a very rare type of Leukemia in such a young child and most of the studies have only been done in adults, so it’s been difficult.  However, he is now considered a cancer survivor! He must take a daily pill to keep his numbers down for the rest of his life or until there’s a cure.  He continues his maintenance with routine clinic visits and an annual bone marrow biopsy.

Grant has his good and bad days but for the most part he leads a pretty normal life for a 12 year old boy.  He loves baseball, basketball, golf and video games.  His favorite positions in baseball are catcher and pitcher.  He also loves that his dad coaches him! In his career, he has hit 1in the park home run.  His Make A Wish was to play Play Station with Joe Maur.  The game was played up on the big scoreboard at Target Field!

I am humbled to have Grant in my life and I feel blessed to be partnered with him in the Home run derby and to be playing in his honor.

Hi, I’m Grant.  Five years ago I was living a pretty normal life for a 7 year old boy.  My Mom brought me to the doctor because I was not eating and my stomach was swollen.  I had no symptoms of being sick, just that I had no appetite.  After a lot of questions from my doctor and a simple blood test my life changed in a heartbeat, I was diagnosed with Leukemia.  I found out that I had a rare type of leukemia for a child called Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML).  This was a scary time for me and my family.

I really had no idea what this all meant at the time – I remember being scared, a lot of needles, pills and doctors coming in and out of my hospital room while I played video games.

I am in remission and considered a survivor!  I will continue maintenance with a pill a day for the rest of my life. The pill I take is Sprycel and it helps keep my CML under control.     These drugs make it possible for patients to survive many years with good quality of life, like me.

I do not like taking my pills.  They sometimes make me sick.  When I take my pills I can do normal things.  I continue with clinic visits every three months and have a bone marrow biopsy and aspiration once a year.

My family and I are grateful for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and their research.  I am hopeful that there will be a cure for cancer someday with your help.  Thank you for supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and kids like me.
