Derek has participated in my baseball program at Cypress Ranch High School for two years.  During this time he has excelled both academically and athletically.  Derek is an A/B student.  He is versatile on the baseball field and can play multiple positions.   Derek is a selfless player and a very hard worker.  He was a key player on our 2012 5A Texas State Championship team, playing first base and batting clean up.  Derek hit 0.350 with 5 doubles, 4 homeruns and 33 RBI’s as a sophomore.  He was named to the State All-Tournament Team as well as 1st Team All-District in Cypress Fairbanks ISD.  Derek was the only sophomore named to the All-District team.  Derek always has a great attitude and is a joy to coach.Off the field, Derek is exceptional.  He mentors our younger players and is role model for the kids in our community.  Derek is an outstanding young man and I have no doubt he will represent Cypress Ranch and Texas/USA with class in the Power Showcase.

– John Pope, Head Baseball Coach; Cypress Ranch High School

I have coached the Houston Kyle Chapman Select Organization’s 16U team for the past 8 years, including this past summer when Derek Dickerson was a primary contributor to our success.Derek hit either third or fourth and caught or played first base every game this summer for a team which won the “Premier Baseball 16U Texas State Championship”. They also finished in the top four teams in the “Premier Baseball 16U National Championship”, a 48-team national tournament played in Lubbock, Texas.

Defensively, Derek possesses a very strong arm with a very quick release which allowed him to throw out the great majority of runners from the catcher’s position. Also, Derek is very nimble and has good footwork at first base. He also is very good at “picking balls out of the dirt” as well.

Offensively, Derek hit for power and average for our team. He had many clutch hits while driving in critical runs, several with two outs. As his coach, I was very confident and happy to see him come up with runners on base because I knew he would have a good at bat every time.

Derek is a great teammate, supportive of the other guys and willing to do whatever asked of him to help his team, all with a smile on his face because he really enjoys playing the game. During the Lubbock Tournament, in order to help our team, Derek, in addition to his primary positions, also pitched an inning and played third a couple of innings.

Finally as a person, Derek Dickerson is a solid individual who comes from a great family, who are happy to support him and his brother in every way. Derek is the second Dickerson I have had the pleasure to coach at Kyle Chapman. A few years ago I had his older brother Cody as well. They are both great kids, who are a coach’s dream. Cody is respectful, sincere, and honest. He loves the game and works harder than the vast majority of players in our organization.  – John (Jack) Rodriguez
