I have had the privilege of coaching Joey Pinney for the last 2 seasons. His ability to make me smile when I came to the field everyday. My joy came when I was able to witness a young man honor and glorify the Lord with his attitude and effort every time he took the field. As a coach I smiled because Joey always gave his best. He never took a day off. He would play 3B, 1B, OF, and pitch on any given weekend, and I knew that I would have a great player at that position if Joey was there. With his willingness to serve his team through actions of hard work and consistent play, any coach would find him to be great. Although, for me, I became a huge Joey Pinney fan when he would lead prayer before or after games. His actions lined up with his Christian beliefs, so God was well pleased. I have coached many players with talent for the game, but Joey let’s his abilities shine like a bright light for the Lord. He praises Jesus name whether doing good or bad. His witness helped me become a better coach and person. For this, I am honored to write on his behalf and say, “Joey Pinney was born to play baseball, so his abilities will always attract people to watch him play. Instead of boasting or bragging about his gifts, he thanks the Lord for the opportunity to use baseball as a witness platform for the Lord.”

I pray Joey does his best in the competition, and I hope the number of HR’s he hits will be secondary to his character being noticed while at the competition.

God Bless,

Joe Caruso
