I am writing on behalf of Trey Mathis, whom I have coached and taught for the last 5 years.  In that time I have come to know Trey very well as both a student and an athlete.  From these experiences I can say with confidence that Trey is a dedicated student-athlete who leads others by setting a strong example with his effort and activities both on and off the field. As an athlete, Trey is focused and determined, often practicing countless hours a week on his own time just to stay on top of his game.  However, he still has a sense of friendliness and camaraderie with teammates and classmates who often times are not as focused and goal-oriented as he.  Trey responds well to the call of leadership.  Trey’s thoughtful remarks and helpful comments are well received by his team.  Trey has distinguished himself by his personal hard work and he has earned much respect for his demonstrated ability to foster growth in his younger teammates.Trey’s work ethic also transfers to the classroom as well.  In the classroom he maintains a 3.55 G.P.A. at West Morgan High School while also participating in The Fellowship of Christian Athletes and FCCLA.  On the playing field, he has been honored as an ASWA first team all-state catcher, ASWA class 3A hitter of the year, Max Preps second team all-american, member of East/West Lions Club all star team, member of Alabama Baseball Coaches Association all star weekend, member of Team Alabama and was the Decatur Daily’s small school player of the year.Trey’s goal is to become a college/professional baseball player.  Throughout the time I have known Trey he has displayed the moral character, discipline, organization and commitment necessary to become a successful student-athlete or professional.  Trey would be an asset to any university or professional organization. – Todd Stephens
