I am Jeff McCollum a coach for the Odessa Outlaws 13U Majors in Odessa, Tx. I had the honor this year to have one of the most talented God gifted players I have seen at this age Stevie Villareal #45. When I first saw Stevie hit in live BP on the field I accused him of having a loaded bat. It didn’t take long for him to prove me wrong no matter what bat he held the ball came off just as hot. This young man is a tremendous athlete both at the plate and in the field. He just has what you want in a player he is always thinking ahead and has a head for the game that you cannot really teach. I strongly believe this game is more of a thinking game than any other sport you either have that thought process or you don’t. Stevie is guaranteed to pull something out of the hat every tournament, from catching flies balls with bare hand behind 3rd while playing short and to have the knowledge there was runner on first and double him up off his knees. His hands and fluid mechanics are something that most high school kids dream of having. If you wanted anyone at the plate in a clutch situation he is the stick you want up at the plate. He has a love and passion for the game that most coaches wish every kid had. He is the type of kid that is so competitive there is really now reason to get on to him if he made a mistake he was hard enough on himself for a brief moment then would shake it off and play. This young man not only has what it takes but is open to letting you help him and plays with open ears. Stevie is a young man that almost every team we played would ask his dad or one of us for his info and if he would travel. He primarily played short stop and we used him on the hump in big games we would let them throw around 70 pitches and he would usually get us 5-6 innings. He hit a couple kids while pitching both times he would wait for their coach to get done with checking on them and would go over and shake their hand and check on them. I would look up after a game and he would be running foul poles on his own. Stevie is not only a great ball player but a great young man off the field draws younger kids to him and has great manors. My 6-year-old son still wants to text him just tell him he loves him and Stevie always replies back. Before and after games he would play with the kids and he was more worried about my son getting a ring after then getting one himself. He would also be one of the few players that would say the prayer before each game. He is a leader and does his talking with his bat and glove.

Here are his stats from this year we used game changer to keep these stats. AB 116, BA .560, OBP .594, H 65, 1B 27, 2B 10, 3B 12, HR 16, RBI 74, R 63, BB 12, K 15, SB 42, SB% 92%, CS 1, PK 1.

Jeff McCollum Odessa Outlaws

I have coached the Red Devils for the past seven years and Mr. Villarreal has joined our competitive travel team for the last four months, competing in: the 2016 USSSA Last Chance Qualifier in Alamogordo, NM, the 2016 USSSA Global World Series in Las Cruces, NM, the 2016 Extreme Diamond Sports World Series in San Diego, CA, and as an active player in the El Paso Sportsplex City League for 14U Fall Ball. It is with great pleasure that I write this letter delineating the qualities Mr. Villarreal has demonstrated as he competes alongside his Red Devils teammates.
Upon meeting Mr. Villarreal, one can immediately note the level of athletic ability and passion he has for the game of baseball. It is evident that he has a high level of understanding of real time play analysis that facilitates every aspect o! his game. He devotes time an effort to every area of the sport, as he is able to perform as a shortstop, second base, outfielder, and pitcher. In these areas of performance, he has an ability to be agile, accurate, with good footwork, and quick hand speed. As a shortstop it is clear that his lat&al movement is at an above average range of performance compared to that of his peers distinguishing him amongst his competitors.
Mr. Villarreal has a unique approach to the game of baseball that I noted once I met him, and opposing teams do not forget. He is an aggressive player both defensively and offensively. He will challenge his opponent by being quick and decisive with his offensive game (base running). Mr. Villarreal’s level of competitiveness renders a batting average of .600 or higher, being able to hit for average and hits with great power. The athletic abilities that he possesses that allow for this are his great hand eye coordination and quick bat speed. All of these are strengths that Mr. Steve Villarreal possesses and continues to develop in his pursuit for higher-level competitive baseball.
Mr. Steve Villarreal has my highest support in his athletic endeavors, as he not only has obvious athleticism but an animated personality to match it.
Arturo Marquez, Head Coach of the Las Cruces Red Devils 14U Baseball Team.
