COLLEGE SELECT – Schedule & Format 2016

PLEASE note that some of you have chosen not to participate in the either of the two games; World Classic or Featured All-American Game. However, you are still encouraged to enjoy the comradery of the team meetings and the Mental Strength Session with Michael Cooper. Your scheduled event will be officially over on December 29th unless you advance to the finals on December 30th.

 

VERY IMPORTANT – If you are an international player, you will be participating in the World Classic and will attend those team meetings.  If you are participating in the Featured All-American Game – you will be attending those team meetings.

 

FOOD/DRINKS are permitted in the stadium

ADMISSION is free

SNACKS –  It is strongly suggested that you bring some protein bars, fruit, drinks, or any other snacks to consume as the days will be long.  

 

Monday, December 26th – Arrival & Check-in 12:00pm to 10:00pm Player Check-in Hilton Hotel – Downtown Miami – CONCERTO A Room
12:00pm to 10:00pm– Players will receive their uniform and pick/choose their POWER SHOWCASE Home Run Derby batting order.

 

Tuesday, December 27th – 9:00am to 4:00pm – MLB Scout Day & Welcome Dinner 7:00pm to 10:00pm

Players will check-in with their Head/Assistant Coach’s at the Diamond Club Entrance (10 minutes before your scheduled meeting time) and walk together to your meeting areas. There will be visible signs and Marlins staff to help guide you to your designated locations. Once your team meeting is over, you will walk to the Marlins Media Room for your Mental Strength Session with Michael Cooper.

11:00am to 11:15am – Head to the field for updates and projected Scout Day starting time

11:15am – Scout Speech Intro – Pittsburg Pirates Nick Presto

11:30am to 4:30pm Defense & Batting Practice

7:00pm to 10:00pm – Welcome Dinner – Location Marlins Park

 

Wednesday, December 28th –  HOME RUN DERBY – PRELIMINARY ROUND – 11:00am to 11:00pm.

It’s going to be a long, but an extremely exciting competition. The top two finalists from each age group will advance to the Championship Round on December 30th and compete for the World Title – 1:00pm to 3:00pm

*WILDCARDIf a player hits the furthest Home Run and does not finish in the top two, he will also advance to the finals.

Home Run Derby Pitcher:
Players are encouraged to bring their own Home Run Derby Pitcher. Coach Eddie Gonzalez will  be available to throw.

Three Groups will participate; College Select, Underclass, and Featured.

The College Select will hit separately from the Underclass and Featured.

The Underclass and Featured will hit together. The leaderboard in left field will highlight the top three in each group.

Players will check-in with Coach Jerry Gonzalez in the third base dugout.

PLEASE keep in mind that the starting time might vary slightly because of the home run derby competition taking place beforehand.

Introductions/National Anthem – Simply do to time constraints, only the College Select will be introduced and will line up along the first baseline. The Underclass participants will follow and also line up along the first baseline.  The Featured players will line up along the third baseline.

11:25am – National Anthem performed by
11:30am to 12:30pm – College Select (10 Participants) – During the preliminary round, each participant will receive 20 outs – 15 with wood and the option of staying with wood or using metal for the remaining 5.  It is open bat format, so the BESR bat is allowed. Each participant is encouraged to bring their own derby pitcher.  If they cannot bring one, one will be provided.
12:30pm to 11:00pm – Underclass & Featured (34 & 45 = 79 Total Participants) – During the preliminary round, each participant will receive 20 outs – 5 with wood and 15 with metal. It is open bat format, so the BESR bat is allowed.

Game 1 – World Classic – 3:35pm to 7:35pm

OFFENSIVE MVP ANNOUNCED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE GAME

 

Coaches, kindly have your line-up cards filled out and ready to be handed in one hour before your scheduled game time. Josh Turner will be by to retrieve it from you.

Please keep in mind that the actual starting time of the game may vary and will be dictated by the length of the Finals.  Once an assessment has been made on a projected starting time – address accordingly.
Coaches, have your line-ups completed shortly after 1:00pm and player check in.

1:00pm – Player Check-in with your Head Coach in the third base dugout and then watch the finals

3:00pm – Player check-in

World American – First base dugout – Head Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald  – Hand in Line-up cards to PA & Marlins Staff
World National – Third base dugout – Head Coach Alejandro Machado – Hand in Line-up cards to PA & Marlins Staff

3:00pm – Players get loose (pitchers/catchers & coach to bullpen)
Depending on time constraints, we might have player introductions. Again, everything depends on the length of the home run derby Finals.

3:25pm – Homeplate meeting & players line-up on respective foul lines.

3:30pm – National Anthem Performed By

3:35pm – First Pitch

Game 2 – All-American Game – 8:05pm to 11:05pm 

OFFENSIVE MVP ANNOUNCED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE GAME

1:00pm – Player Check-in with your Head Coach in the third base dugout and then watch the finals

1:00pm to 3:00pm – FINALS

6:30pm – Game – Player/team check-in at a designated area and watch the rest of the World Classic.
